Sources & Methodology

MTG Compendium maintains source provenance so imported records and derived information can be traced to their origin.

Card and set data

Card identities, Oracle information, legalities, printings and set information are maintained as structured records.

Canonical Oracle card identities are used to connect printings, deck entries and other site entities whenever a reliable match is available.

Tournament and deck data

Tournament and deck records are stored with source identifiers so imports can be refreshed without creating duplicate entities.

MTG Compendium preserves source provenance for imported competitive data.

Format normalization

External format labels may differ between sources. MTG Compendium normalizes admitted labels to canonical formats such as Standard, Modern, Pioneer and Commander.

Derived statistics

Future metagame and card-usage statistics will identify their underlying dataset, time window and calculation methodology.

Derived statistics represent the dataset available to MTG Compendium and should not automatically be interpreted as universal metagame measurements.
